TextTray is a macOS app that stores text snippets locally on your Mac. The short version: it does not collect, transmit, or store your personal data or your library contents anywhere. The detail follows.
What the app stores
Your library is a plain file on your own disk, in a location you choose. The app also saves small preferences (your chosen library file path, your keyboard shortcut, and whether launch-at-login is enabled) in the standard macOS preferences store for the app. All of this stays on your Mac.
What the app sends
Nothing, with one exception. When you click Check for Updates, the app requests an update feed from GitHub to see whether a newer version exists. That request necessarily reveals your IP address and the app version you're running to GitHub, as any download does. Automatic background update checks are turned off, so this only happens when you ask for it.
There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no account system. Your clipboard contents and library contents are never transmitted.
Permissions the app asks for
TextTray asks for macOS Accessibility permission so it can simulate a ⌘V keystroke to paste into the app you're using. This permission is used only for that. If you decline it, TextTray still copies items to your clipboard; it just won't paste them automatically.
This website
This site is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare Pages, plus one small server-side function that handles the “Request an invite” form. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. As with any web host, Cloudflare processes standard technical request data (such as IP address and browser user agent) to serve and protect the site; see Cloudflare's own privacy documentation for how it handles that.
If and when you buy TextTray
TextTray is not on sale yet. When it is, payment will be handled by a third-party payment provider, which will collect the billing details needed to process your purchase under its own privacy policy. Payment card details are never seen or stored by TextTray. This section will be updated with the specific provider before any sale begins.
Beta invite requests and email
If you use the “Request an invite” form or email us directly, we keep your email address only to reply to you and to run the private beta. Form submissions are stored in Cloudflare's KV data store, under the same Cloudflare account that hosts this site — no marketing platform or other third party sees it, and it's never added to a mailing list. Ask us to delete it at any time and we will.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above changes with it.
